With new developments adding to the supply of premium retail spaces, now is an excellent time to revisit and repurpose less competitive stock.
Owned and operated by the City of Perth, the Pier Street Carpark was built in two stages, with the northern carpark completed in 1972 and the southern section, including three retail spaces facing Murray Street, completed in 1980.
While the site has had superficial upgrades over the last four decades, its essential form has remained unchanged while the retail sector has changed dramatically.
This brief required a complete solution for the site that would incorporate a redesign of the existing retail spaces into a single ground floor commercial tenancy, and upgrades to the building façade, the Murray Street lobby, and the basement carpark.
The other critical challenge is to manage these works for minimal disruption for the site’s core purpose, offering more than 700 bays primarily servicing city workers.
This project highlights Hillam’s capacity for design and project management, working closely with the client to provide a long term solution for the site.
